While winter can be sartorially synonymous with wonderful, warm knitwear, the sweater category can often be forgotten during spring. However, the right knitwear can be a powerful styling tool and a useful layering piece for the transitional period between seasons and, beyond that, a simple top solution for those jacket-less spring days to come. Before the transition begins, it's important to pinpoint the ins and outs of the knitwear space—for example, which styles to keep around in your drawers for spring and the ones to put away until next season.

Though alpaca, heavyweight wool, or sturdy cashmere sweaters are most likely still in your current rotation, these are the styles to keep in mind for the spring season ahead. From fine rib-knit cardigans to silk-blend cashmeres and semi-sheer merino wools (a SS23 runway trend!), shop our guide to everyday spring knitwear below.

Cashmere comes in many weights. As the temperatures rise, these lighter and thinner styles are the perfect in-between. Style them layered over each other for a Miu Miu spring-collection-inspired look, or alone to transition into spring later.

After many winter days of covering yourself in high-neck tops and often uncomfortable turtlenecks, let your neck and chest free this spring with a smart V-neck sweater instead.

Preppy sweater vests have been trending for a few seasons now, but here's a new long(er) sleeve alternative to consider. Short-sleeve knits are a wonderful styling hack for layering under blazers and jackets during the spring season.

Bulky, wooly, fuzzy, and heavy cardigans are a winter style must-have, but unfortunately, they aren't always the easiest of styles to take with you into the other seasons. Swap in a fine knit or ribbed version for a simple solution to the cardigan sweater.

Fans of the sporty half/quarter zip sweaters and sweatshirts will enjoy spring's iteration of zipped-up knitwear. In stretchy ribs, zippers go from top to bottom.

Similar to the cashmere options mentioned above, lightweight merino wool is another way to wear knitwear this spring.
