A new recyclable paper tape from Hickory, NC-based Shurtape Technologies offers packagers a sustainable alternative to conventional packaging tape. CR 400 performance-grade, flatback tape is Shurtape’s first recyclable packaging tape.

Constructed from paper, the pressure-sensitive tape is curbside recyclable and can be used for a variety of manual and automated package-sealing application. These include general-purpose packaging, binding, holding, tabbing, reinforcing, banding, and patching.

The product is made with Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)-certified paper (FSC-C154304) and a robust synthetic, rubber-based adhesive. The tape’s strong, flexible kraft backing blends well with kraft cartons.

Shurtape reports that CR-400 tape “delivers a quick stick and excellent holding power” and complies with FDA specifications for indirect food contact. The product provides the same levels of strength and reliability as the company’s conventional packaging tapes, even on boxes made from recycled materials.

Additionally, Western Michigan University has verified that the new tape is curbside recyclable while still attached to boxes. It exhibits high cross-directional strength and is resistant to curling, abrasion, and water.

The tape’s tensile strength is 35 lbs/in width, and its service temperature range is 60℉ to 150℉. Standard widths for the product are 1.88 and 2.83 inches, and standard lengths are 60.1 and 599.3 yards.
