DARIEN, CT — The Darien Police Department is asking the public for information on the death of Darien police officer Kenneth E. Bateman Jr., who was killed 42 years ago.

On May 31, 1981, Bateman was shot and killed while investigating a commercial burglar alarm activation at a local fast food restaurant, according to police.

Bateman, a seven year veteran of the DPD at the time, was just 34 years old when he died. Prior to joining the DPD, Bateman served as a member of the United States Navy.

He left behind his wife, Barbara, and his parents, Kenneth Sr. and Gladys Bateman.

Darien police said Wednesday the investigation into Bateman's death is "ongoing." Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the DPD's detective division at 203-662-5330.
